Marquee Hire Prices - A Guide to Budget, Value and Options

Marquees can be used in countless different ways, and making sure you find the right Marquee for your requirement will help you pay the right price too. The key factors to your marquee costs are the requirements of the site and the style you would like.

How to Work Out an Approximate Budget

If you have in mind a simple wet weather marquee, or a cool sun shade for a BBQ or garden party, provided your lawn is reasonably level, then a top only Traditional Poled Marquee is ideal. An unlined poled tent matted for, say, 50 guests standing with a few tables and chairs, you can reckon from £8 - £10 per head as a guide. Alternatively, a modern 'Chinese Hat' pagoda marquee is for those who want to spend a little more on something more stylish. A 'Chinese Hat' stands a maximum of 25 guests only, but costs similar money.

If the occasion warrants something more substantial, such as a Birthday Party, School Ball, Sports/Hospitality Event, Anniversary Party or Christening, then a little more care is necessary. An interior lining hides a multitude of sins, most significantly in a Frame Tent where the metal frame parts, braces and wires are unsightly. Also, any electrical cabling and heater ducting will be hidden by lining. Type of lighting is also very important. Simple wall lights, chandeliers or spotlights will give general light to the tent without fuss. A typical marquee for 100 guests can be lit from £100 upwards. Very often, different types of lighting are used in order to create an effect within the marquee. Uplights around the perimeter on a seperate dimmer switch to the central chandelier or pin spots will add style to the occasion.

For weddings and corporate events, catering tents, connecting walkways, portaloos, dance floor and furniture are usually a requirement, and will obviously add on. Catering tent will cost £100-£300 for between 50 - 200 guests; covered walkways lined and matted are £7 - £10 per ft run; good quality self-contained trailer portaloos cost from £300 - £500 for 100 guests, anything up to £700 for 200 guests and £1000 plus for 400 guest capacity portaloo. These are supplied with soap, towels, music and includes transport/delivery and set-up with the additional option of an attendant.

The choices of chairs, tables, linen, dance floors, stages and all the ancillaries will have a big effect on the budget. Inside Outside offers a comprehensive range of furniture which is just too great to list. A basic table of ten, with ten plastic chairs costs around £20. However, the same table with colour co-ordinated undercloth, slip cloth, napkins , a wooden gilt chair with colour co-ordinated seat pad covers will come to closer to £50 per table of ten. Evidently, multiply these costs by 200 guests and here is another area budget can be controlled or otherwise.
