Long gone are the days of getting married in a church or registry office. Couples have so much more freedom to plan a wedding that absolutely suits them, and venues licensed for civil ceremonies provide an additional level of choice.
Licensed venues also mean you can keep both the ceremony and reception in one place. But this doesn’t necessarily make decisions a straightforward matter, because what happens when you discover that the biggest function room in the venue you most like just isn’t big enough for your guest list? Or what happens if you’re about to sign on the dotted line but are faced with lots of restrictions that will limit the vision you’ve had of your wedding day? And what happens if you just can’t find anything that fits the bill?
The answer is a marquee
Why restrict a marquee to your wedding reception only? Hold the wedding ceremony in the same place and you have complete control of everything. Working within the available ground space, we’ll work with you to ensure sufficient capacity for the amount of guests you want to invite to witness you making your vows. The marquee can be dressed and decorated according to your chosen theme and the reception area can be concealed until such time as it needs to be brought into action. Plus you can choose whatever suppliers you want – or we can introduce you to suppliers with whom we work regularly.
But those aren’t the only advantages of a combined wedding ceremony and reception in a marquee. You and your guests will be in one place from beginning to end. It’s often the logistics of moving a mass of people from one venue to another that causes issues on a wedding day – a traffic jam or guests losing their way because they don’t have SatNav, unfortunate things can happen along the way. You can build in a certain amount of slippage time, but keeping things on track throughout your big day is important – the photographer needs to get group shots organised, the caterers will be working to a specific time schedule, the band due to play two sets before 11pm, and the DJ is only booked until midnight. You get the picture. Plan your entire wedding to take place in and around a marquee and your stress levels – during the run up and on the day – will never come close to panic.
But will the ceremony feel special enough?
A wedding ceremony in an Inside Out marquee will be every bit as special as if you were to hold it in a pretty church or grand hall of a period property. Take a look at this footage of a wedding marquee we provided for one couple:
This particular marquee was set up in the grounds of the client’s home in Godalming, Surrey, and was designed to accommodate 200 guests. We used a scaffolding system to create a completely level surface and created two separate and distinct areas – one for the ceremony and one for the reception and evening party.
The surrounding garden was stunning and it was an obvious choice to incorporate glass window walls and a clear roof for the ceremony area. It meant a naturally beautiful backdrop against which the bride and groom could say their vows and a breathtaking view for the guests. The very talented team at At Home took care of all the styling. An ivory interior with lots of drapery created a romantic and sophisticated atmosphere, glass chandeliers added a touch of grandeur and ghost chairs were chosen to ensure the space looked elegant and uncluttered. A chuppah, or wedding canopy, was covered in moss and decorated with an array of flowers and greenery, providing a truly romantic setting for the wedding vows.
In contrast, the reception area saw the outside come inside and a more rustic feel introduced, with massive potted trees, wooden chairs and elegant table decorations of moss and flowers – a colour palette of purple, pink, green and cream ensured continuity from ceremony to reception. At Home served a four-course wedding breakfast exactly on time, the videographers and photographers captured everything and everyone, there was plenty of time for the evening entertainment – everything went without a hitch and no guests got lost along the way!
