Temporary pop up shops extended retail spaces tend to appear around Christmas time. They’re also proving more popular than ever during the COVID-19 era, as shops and venues strive to create additional, COVID safe spaces for their guests and customers.
So, what can you do to improve your retail opportunities and to enhance the shopping experience for your customers?
Extend your store – additional retail space
Shops and retail spaces are sized to meet average demand throughout the year. This means that at times of seasonal variation – Christmas for example – these spaces can become less suitable and can put retailers under a lot of additional strain.
Retailers need to maximise sales opportunities and take advantage of customer demand; not just at Christmas but during the new year sales too. Extra footfall means that shops become crowded, storage rooms become packed to bursting point and shelves bulge at the seams!
Using marquees to create extra space, stock rooms and shop floors can be a great way to overcome these seasonal challenges. Plus, additional customer space is probably more important than ever during the COVID-19 era…
COVID-19 safe retail spaces
It’s amazing how quickly people adapt. When the COVID-19 pandemic first emerged, we were all taken by surprise. Restrictions such as mask wearing and social distancing felt entirely alien. Now, a couple of years on, coping with a global pandemic – whilst still challenging at times – has become part of our day to days lives.
That said, we all need to continue to take precautions. Wearing masks where necessary, washing and cleansing hands and ensuring that we maintain safe, physical distance from one another in busy spaces such as shops and restaurants.
For retailers, offering safe shopping and dining spaces is not only a duty of care, it makes great financial sense too. Offer your clients a sensibly laid out space in which they feel comfortable safe and free to enjoy their experience will ensure that you stay one step ahead of the competition. If your customers feel cared for then they will want to spend more time in your space; they are more likely to browse, buy and return on future outings too.
Temporary pop up shops
Retail outlets such as garden centres and supermarkets often like to take advantage of their outdoor spaces during the colder months. They commonly use these areas to create additional shopping facilities for their customers.
But creating pop up shops and retail spaces doesn’t have to remain the domain of the large retailer. Smaller outlets should consider creating pop up spaces too; Keeping them close to but separate from their main store. These spaces can be used to house specialist items – Christmas decorations, Christmas trees, special offers, eye-catching stock displays and so on.
Stand alone pop up spaces can be great for food and drink retailers too. A small pop up stand serving hot mulled wine, mince pies and other festive treats can be a great way to attract passing traffic and maximise seasonal opportunities during the festive season.
